2016 New Presidents Forum

DESCRIPTION

The United Way New Presidents Forum, January 12-14, 2016, is an annual event organized for all new United Way executives. It is part of the onboarding process to welcome and engage new United Way CEOs and Executive Directors in United Way’s priorities, and provide an overview on our strategic direction. This forum is an opportunity to learn, network, gain a better understanding of the United Way business model and to learn how to execute on it. CEOs will spend the time meeting United Way Worldwide leaders, learning from prominent network leaders and sharing best practices.

United Way leaders will learn about the latest resources and opportunities available to them. They will learn how to lead their organization in the new strategic direction and how to achieve the greatest possible impact in the community.

CEOs will gain a better understanding of United Way’s network priorities and business model. They will learn how to execute on the business model, leverage best practices and access the latest resources as well as their peer network. Additionally, CEOs will learn about key leadership competencies required for success in the United Way organization.

After the forum, all new Presidents, CEOs and Executive Directors will understand:

  • United Way’s strategic direction
  • How to execute on the United Way Business Model, with a focus on Community Impact, Resource Development and Marketing
  • Elements of leadership needed to drive and change results: Board resources available

The United Way New Presidents Forum is open to all new United Way CEOs hired in 2015 – and those in 2014 that were unable to attend 2015 forum. CEOs are welcome to invite their Board Members to join as well, although no special arrangements will be made in terms of the content – as the target audience is the CEOs.

Tuesday, January 12:

  • 6:30 a.m.: Arrive at United Way Worldwide for bus pick-up to Capitol Hill
  • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Visit to Capitol Hill
  • 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.: Lunch
  • 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Learning Sessions
  • 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.: Welcome Dinner at United Way Worldwide

Wednesday, January 13:

  • 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Learning Sessions
  • Free Evening/Dinner on your own

Thursday, January 14:

  • 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Learning Sessions
  • Forum ends by 3:00 p.m.

VISIT TO CAPITOL HILL


Tuesday, January 12 will kick-off with a half day trip to Capitol Hill. Attendees will have the chance to speak with their community's Representative and talk about the local issues affecting their region. This is a unique opportunity to lend your voice and advocate with your local Representative on your community's most pressing concerns.

BY AIR:
Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest airport, only 3.9 miles (one metro stop) away from United Way Worldwide. The Sheraton Suites in Old Town Alexandria and other listed hotels provide shuttle to and from the airport.

BY RAIL:
Washington, DC’s historic Union Station is ideal for Amtrak riders. Upon arrival, you can either take the subway to United Way Worldwide or procure ground transportation (Taxi, Uber, etc.).

BY BUS:
DC's historic Union Station has ground transportation service through Greyhound, Megabus, BOLT and more popular services.
