Strategic Volunteer Engagement Summit

Engaging volunteers is a central part of United Way’s global business strategy and critical to achieving our mission. This two-day summit will explore how United Ways across the network are taking action to build relationships, generate revenue and drive impact in the areas of education, income and health through volunteerism.

Topics will be explored through presentations, panel discussions, facilitated conversations and networking opportunities.


  • Identify volunteer engagement strategies that build and strengthen relationships with individuals, companies and donors.
  • Explore best practice on generating revenue through volunteer engagement efforts that advance community impact and change lives.
  • Develop and enhance plans to advance priorities in early childhood success, youth success, social-income mobility and access to health through volunteer engagement.
  • Revitalize year-round relationships with companies by strengthening their employee volunteer programs.

Attendees will be asked to complete a short survey 2-3 weeks prior to attending the event.

This program is designed for staff leaders who have had at least three years of volunteer management experience and are committed to strengthening strategic volunteer engagement as a key business strategy. CEOs and Presidents and staff responsible for volunteer engagement, Community Impact, Resource Development and Marketing are encouraged to attend as well as volunteer leaders.

The weather in Alexandria, Virginia during the summit is expected to be pleasant, with average temperatures in the mid-50s F (approx. 10 C) seventies during the day and mid-40s (approx. 5 C) at night. All of the sessions and activities will take place indoors, we advise attendees to wear comfortable, business-casual attire.
